Yoga classes sometimes include references to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali—ideas about quieting the mind, navigating challenges, or cultivating steadiness and clarity.
If you’ve ever been curious about where those teachings come from or wanted to understand them more deeply, this four-week study circle offers a welcoming place to explore them together.
Although the Sutras were written approximately two thousand years ago, their insights speak directly to the challenges and questions of modern life.
Together we’ll explore themes such as:
Understanding the mind—why thoughts are so persistent and what the Sutras suggest about finding more clarity and steadiness
Your relationship with yourself—recognizing patterns of self-judgment, reactivity, and habit so you can relate to yourself with more awareness and choice
Your relationships with others—how the Sutras frame connection, conflict, and compassion in ways that can transform how we show up with people in our lives
Obstacles that get in the way—identifying common mental and emotional patterns that derail us and learning practical ways to work with them
Applying yoga philosophy to everyday life—using the teachings as tools for decision-making, perspective, and navigating challenges
By the end of the series, you’ll have a clearer understanding of the core ideas in the Sutras and practical ways to apply them in your daily life.
Each session includes lecture and group discussion as we move through the text together. No prior experience with yoga philosophy is required.
This series is ideal for:
Yoga students curious about the philosophical roots of their practice
Practitioners who have heard in-class references to the Sutras and want to understand them more deeply
Yoga teachers or teacher-training graduates looking for a thoughtful review and deeper engagement with the text
The recommended companion text is Inside the Yoga Sutras by Jaganath Carrera, though reading ahead is optional.
Come ready to think, reflect, ask questions, and explore how this ancient text still speaks to the realities of modern life.
