Asana and the Moving Body: Kinesiology and Biomechanics of Asana (Saigon, Vietnam)

Most yoga teacher trainings cover a bit of human anatomy. But anatomy dissects—it cuts the human body into easily studied pieces. Yoga teachers don’t work with body parts; we work with fully integrated, moving humans. This workshop will give you tools to see, understand, and instruct the body in motion. We’ll learn the different ways muscles move the body and we’ll examine the body as a tensile structure (your tissues hold you up so your muscles don’t have to do all the work). We'll study how the body navigates force, load, and leverage, then, using that knowledge, we’ll explore strategies to make poses more accessible or more challenging for students with different needs.
